Keith A. Rowel, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of K.A.R MUSIC and Space City Institute of Houston, Inc.. He has directed the administrative music development projects from 1990’s through today.  He has been instrumental in the initial development of music icon, Toni Braxton and has toured with internationally recording bands as a vocalist and keyboardist.

Biography

Rowel’s music is a new sound that is described as fresh, universal, easy to listen to and persuasive. His sound is a new groove that is pleasantly descriptive in its nature, with melodic, multi-cultural dynamics that are pulled out of his life experiences. Rowel has focused his aim on the talents of Shawn Clements, a film music composer who is known for his unforgettable themes and versatility.

Starting Out

Rowel began his quest for music as a teenager in his native town, Annapolis, Maryland. His parents repeatedly dragged him to church to sing in the youth choir. He found himself mimicking every move of the Howard University student church musician, Jackie Scott. As Jackie would slide his fingers up and down the Hammond B3 Organ, he noticed that Rowel was following his every move. So, Jackie began to teach him how to play the piano.

As Rowel was learning to master his art, you would often find him marching up and down the streets of Annapolis playing his Melodica (a wind blown piano). Soon after he and some friends started a local band known as “Koffy,” who played the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore Metropolitan club scene. As “Koffy” eventually disbanded Rowel would often migrate to Washington, D.C. and perform with local bands and played Doo Wop and Stage Plays for Howard University’s drama director, Ted Cooper.

Shortly after, Rowel found himself touring with national recording band Starpoint, sharing the stage with top recording artist such as Cameo, The Whispers, The Mighty O’Jay’s and many others. Rowel later moved to Atlanta where he began to sharpen his songwriting skills. It was in Atlanta that he composed his re-arranged rendition of "We Shall Overcome."  This arrangement was later used as background music for the video of the first Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration. Officially, this was the birthing of Rowel’s desire to become a Film and T.V. Music Composer.

Rowel later moved back to Annapolis, where in befriended Toni Braxton while working together at the District Court house. This soon opened the door to several recording sessions with Toni where he composed and recorded music for Toni.

Also, Rowel's music experience has afforded him the opportunity to share the stage with several greats such as, Rod Parsley - World Harvest Church, Bill Pettiway - songwriter of Girl You Know It’s True (Millie Vanilli), Lionel Job - songwriter and producer, Marvin Ennis, Vanessa Bell-Armstrong, Bootsy Collins, Parliament Funkadelic, (the late) Yolanda King and the King Family, Howard Hewitt, Jermaine Jackson and many others.
